I've always said, if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my obligations and expectations as CEO of Apple, I was the first to let people know you would. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I herewith resign as CEO of Apple. I want to serve, if the board deems necessary, as CEO, director and Apple employees.
As far as my replacement goes, I recommend that we perform our succession planning and the name of Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.
I think Apple's brightest and most innovative days ahead. And I'm looking forward to watching and contributing to their success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all work for many years in the position to work with you.
